Rice Distribution in Jalan Batu

Following up on our community efforts in 2023 when we participated in the “Walk for Rice” campaign organised by NTUC FairPrice and SouthEast District, SingFinance clocked a total of 10,468 km which translated into 104,680 bowls of rice and oatmeal for the less privileged residents in SouthEast District. On 22 August 2024, 10 volunteers from SingFinance along with staff members from St. Hilda’s Community Services Centre visited 20 households in Jalan Batu, to not only deliver the rice we helped to contribute, but to spend time with the residents and spread a little love and kindness, as part of St Hilda’s regular outreach program in the area.

"Fun Day-Out" with Seniors

On 21 September 2024, close to 90 staff from SingFinance hosted 92 seniors from St Hilda’s Community Services Centre and Limbang SCEC to a “Fun Day Out” at SAFRA Toa Payoh. The highlights of the day included games like BINGO, stretching exercises, karaoke sing-along, arts and craft, a sumptuous buffet lunch and even an anti-scam skit presented by volunteers from the National Crime Prevention Council. It was an opportunity for staff, both local and foreign, to engage the seniors meaningfully and play our part as members of a caring community – one that uplifts and supports one another, regardless of age, ethnicity and social standing.

Other Contributions

In 2024, we also made donations to Sing Thong Chai Medical Institution, Thian Hock Keng, Chong Pang Community Club, Abilities Beyond Limitations and Expectations, Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre (SCDT) and other local associations to support their worthy causes.

Walk For Rice 2023

Sing Investments & Finance Limited and its Board of Directors are committed to building strong relationships with our communities and promoting healthy and active lifestyle. In 2023, we enthusiastically participated in the 10 week-long program of NTUC FairPrice Walk for Rice+ @ South East, which aimed to accumulate walking and running distances among participants.These efforts were exchanged for donations of rice and oatmeal to support needy and vulnerable families in the South East District by NTUC FairPrice.

Our colleagues, management and directors personally contributed to the programme by walking and running to gather the distance.

In addition, more than 80 Sing Investments & Finance Limited staff members spent a meaningful morning on 28 October at the Gardens by the Bay with about 40 children and parents from underprivileged families, walking together for the good cause. The event was jointly organised by Sing Investments & Finance Limited and the SouthEast Community Development Council in conjunction with the Walk for Rice programme. During the event, the children and parents were also treated to a morning full of fun and games, had lunch with us and received groceries to bring home.

Collectively, Sing Investments & Finance Limited covered an impressive 12,300 kilometres (equivalent to 236.5 million steps) and contributed 113,749 bowls of rice and oatmeal to the needy communities. Beyond the tangible contribution, this program is also an opportunity for us to promote social integration among our staff, both local and foreign, and with the different ethnic groups in the communities.

DAY-OUT AT THE ZOO

Moving into the COVID new-normal phase, we organized our first in-person Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) event in more than 2 years. Our volunteers spent a memorable day out with close to 40 children and teachers from Care Corner at the Singapore Zoo. Care Corner is a social service agency which focuses on serving children with special learning needs or from disadvantaged backgrounds. Even though ART testing, mask wearing (when outdoors) and safe distancing were no longer mandatory, we adhered to all these measures in order to keep the event safe. Through fun and games played in teams, the goal was to learn about the urgent need to protect our animals and their habitats. At the end of the event, each member of the winning team was given the privilege to choose an animal from the Zoo’s adoption programme, to which SIF made a monetary contribution towards its upkeep and well-being.

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS

In 2022, the Group has also made donations to Queenstown Multi-Service Centre, Ren Ci Hospital and other local associations to support their worthy causes.

Share-a-Gift

In December 2021, SIF participated in this annual Christmas charity project – “Share-a-Gift” project – organised by the Singapore Boys’ Brigade. With over 40,000 beneficiaries seeking to fulfil their wishes through the Boys’ Brigade project, we were heartened to be able to contribute towards making the festive season, a little more special for the children, elderly and special needs persons under Bethesda Care Services.

In keeping with the safe management measures during the pandemic, our staff volunteered in teams of no more than five, to purchase, wrap and distribute the gifts. Beyond Christmas, the spirit of giving continues and we will endeavour to do our part to help build an inclusive and caring society that we all wish to be a part of.

Other Contributions

In the year 2021, the Group also contributed to the Yellow Ribbon, as well as the Ren Ci Hospital for fund raising events.

DIGITAL CLEAN UP

In 2019, we conducted a physical clean-up of the environment on World Clean-Up Day. However, due to the pandemic, we decided to do our part for the environment by cleaning up our digital trash instead. As a company, we collected 95 pledges to clean up 3.09TB of data the carbon offset equivalent to planting 1,931 trees in a tropical forest.

LOCAL COMMUNITY

As a Finance Company, serving the financial needs of our customers is our business and contributing back to the communities has always been a part of our corporate values. We believe in building strong bonds not only with our customers, but amongst our staff and the community at large.

VOLUNTEERING WITH WILLING HEARTS

As part of our National day celebrations, around 30 volunteers from SIF went about in small teams to deliver 350 packed meals to around 150 households island wide. This spirit of giving, with willing hearts and hands was made even more meaningful, in view of the challenging times during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The staff together with the Company also donated $10,000 to “Willing Hearts” for their excellent work in the community.

OTHER DONATIONS

In January 2020, prior to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Singapore, the Group continued to sponsor our long-time charity partner, Red Star Restaurant Pte Ltd in hosting 200 elderly folks to a sumptuous CNY lunch. To support the community in the fight against Covid-19, the Group also donated to the Singapore Red Cross and other mask donation projects. With these contributions, we hope to do our small part, in supporting the community through these difficult times.

WORLD CLEANUP DAY

Another initiative was to engage the staff in sustainability- related activities. On 21 September 2019, SIF joined over 20 million people in 180 countries and territories all over the world, to clean up together on the same day. Through this hands-on experience, the 80 staff volunteers who participated realized how much effort is required to keep Singapore; Clean and Green; and the urgent need to reduce the amount of trash we generate each day.

We managed to clean up, collect and audit 60.5kg of trash in about 2 hours.

Among the items recorded, cigarette butts, food wrappers and foam pieces ranked as top 3 types of trash collected. But the team was heartened by an extra meaningful find – a baby turtle that was entangled with seaweed and string, which we managed to rescue and set free.

LOCAL COMMUNITY

As a Finance Company, serving the needs of others is essentially our business. Therefore, people are always at the heart of what we do. We believe in building strong bonds not only with our customers, but among our staff and the community at large. This year, SIF chose to focus our CSR efforts on the elderly and children at risk.

SPREADING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR CHEER TO THE ELDERLY

On 14 Feb 2019, SIF supported our long time charity partner – Red Star Restaurant Pte Ltd in hosting about 200 elderly folks to a sumptuous CNY lunch. These seniors were mostly living alone or from various Old Folks Homes. They enjoyed themselves and were entertained by famous local and foreign Getai singers. After the meal, SIF, along with other sponsors, distributed red packets to all the elders, wishing them good health and happiness.

CHRISTMAS CHARITY FLEA MARKET

To encourage staff to reuse and recycle more, a Charity Flea Market was organized within the Company. Staff contributed generously – many donated their pre-loved items, some spent weeks knitting items for sale, while others made purchases both on site as well as online during this half day event. A total of $6,000.00 was raised and all proceeds went to the Chen Su Lan Methodist Children’s Home, to help defray the cost of providing a safe haven for the at-risk children in their care.

OTHER SPONSORSHIPS

SIF donated another $28,000.00 to various charities, of which $20,000.00 went to Ren Ci Hospital, a non-profit voluntary welfare organisation (VWO) dedicated to provide affordable medical, nursing and rehabilitative care services to the elderly community. With this contribution, we hope it would enable the less fortunate seniors to continue receiving good quality healthcare services.

Get-together outing with Seniors @ Limbang

SING INVESTMENTS & FINANCE LIMITED believes in continuous commitment in contributing towards a good cause to the society.

For this year, we continue to partner with People’s Association to organise a Get-together Outing with Seniors to the Flower Dome & Cloud Forest @ Gardens By The Bay on Saturday, 14 July 2018. Around 36 staff reached out to 40 beneficiaries comprising the elderly mainly from the low-income families and seniors residing at the Limbang Constituency. The targeted elderly’s age profile ranges from 60 to 90 years comprising different races and wheelchair-bound elderly residents.

As part of this befriending engagement session, our staff accompanied the elderly folks strolled through the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forests at Gardens By The Bay and marvelled at the colourful flowers and the tall indoor waterfall in the comfortable air-conditioned greenhouse. After the garden tour, it was followed by an 8-Course Sit-Down lunch at a Restaurant. The engagement was well received by the beneficiaries and their huge smiles at the end of the day were very heartwarming.

Through our annual CSR event, our employees had a good experience bonding relationship internally and also sensed the responsibilities to care for others and learn to contribute meaningfully to our society.

SING INVESTMENTS & FINANCE LIMITED (“SIF”) formulates our Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) Policy with reference to the Singapore Exchange (“SGX”) Sustainability Reporting guidelines. The objectives of our CSR Policy are:

to promote responsibility and care towards the local communities;
to promote energy efficiency and minimise negative impacts to the environment; and
to ensure conducive and pleasant working environment for employees.

SING INVESTMENTS & FINANCE LIMITED believes in continuous commitment in contributing towards a good cause to the society. For this year, sustainability has been attained as we continue to collaborate with People’s Association in our CSR events to care for the local communities. We encourage a corporate culture of giving and volunteerism towards meaningful causes of the community.

Project we care – Parents’ & Day

As part of our Community Involvement Project, SIF embarked on the Project We Care Activity by collaborating with the People’s Association in organising “Parents’ Day” Event in Limbang Constituency on 23 July 2017. Elderly residents from low-income families residing at the nearby neighbourhood were invited.

Both our management’s and employees’ strong support of this event ensured the success of the abovementioned “Parents’ Day” Event. Our CSR volunteers sacrificed their precious weekend to participate in the aforesaid Event by mingling, exercising, playing games, karaoke singing and serving food to the senior folks. It was heartening to see that the elderly had an enjoyable time at the Event.

The aforesaid Event provided our staff with ample opportunities to bond as well as caring for the underprivileged and making a meaningful contribution to our society.

We are happy that we can positively improve the lives of the less privileged segments of our society through our CSR programmes. It has been a great pleasure and honour for us to partner with People’s Association for our CSR projects.

At SIF, we are committed to our sense of corporate social responsibility and with more participation in the CSR events, our employees will develop a bonding relationship with their co-workers to care for others and learn to contribute meaningfully to our society.

SIF believes in continuous commitment to giving back to society and we are targeting towards attaining more sustainability in our future CSR projects. In our continuous efforts to reach out to the less privileged, we encourage corporate giving and volunteerism towards meaningful causes to the community to foster a high performance CSR organization.

For the year 2016, we have participated in two CSR activities.

Project we care

In collaboration with People’s Association, SIF embarked on its first Project We Care activity on 22nd October 2016. The programme is under the umbrella of Project We Care Stay Well with Friends, with the key objective of enhancing the social well-being of the vulnerable community through corporate-initiated activities.

With the network introduction of People’s Association, we had a fabulous and wonderful time entertaining and uplifting the spirits of the elderly folks from the low income brackets including some handicapped residents at Limbang Constituency @ Choa Chu Kang. We had an exciting and fun day bringing much joy and laughter to them.

Our volunteers interacted with the elderly with some handicraft works and played guessing games with them which tested their memory and kept them active and alert. This was followed by a Karaoke singing session, healthy fruits cum buffet session with them. They enjoyed themselves singing and dancing with the volunteers and we had achieved our objective of bringing much joy and happiness to the elderly.

It was indeed heartening to see the elderly enjoying the food, games and the interactions with our volunteers. It has been our pleasure and honour to have the opportunity to work with People’s Association for our CSR projects.

SGX Bull Charge Charity Run 2016

Every year, SGX rallies the support of its listed companies and counterparts from the financial sector to raise funds for the underprivileged children and families, persons with disabilities and the elderly (namely AWWA Ltd, Autism Association, Fei Yue Community Services and Shared Services for Charities). The SGX Bull Charge Charity Run attracts more participants than any other corporate charity race in Singapore. For the first time, Sing Investments & Finance Limited contributed S$5,000 and participated in the SGX Bull Charge Charity Run 2016 which was held on 18 November 2016 at The Float @ Marina Bay. Twenty five of our staff participated in the 5km run in the financial district – all for a good cause to do their part for charity.

Other Initiatives

In line with global efforts to save the environment an SIF is committed to reduce energy usage and office consumables. Reduction in paper usage is achieved by making reports available in soft copies and encouraging staff to print documents only when necessary and to print on both sides of the paper. To reduce power consumption, electrical devices and equipment are switched off when not in use and lights in the buildings appropriately dimmed after office hours. We will continue to raise the level of awareness and commitment amongst staff towards sustainability in all aspects of our social responsibility operations.

SIF remains firmly committed to giving back to the society and advocating good environmental practices. In our efforts to reach out to the less fortunate through community work, we organize CSR activities and encourage our staff to actively participate in these meaningful events.

On 19 September 2015, volunteers from SIF visited the Chee Hoon Kog Moral Home for the Aged Sick, a home for about 125 residents, most of whom are wheelchair-bound.

The event kicked off with our volunteers accompanying about 50 residents for their daily exercises with their physiotherapists. Exercise was followed by a sing-along session and games before tucking in to a sumptuous meal. The visit ended with our volunteers distributing goody bags to the residents.

The reward was more than seeing the happy faces of the residents of the home. SIF staff volunteers deepened their bond with one another.

As part of our continuous effort in caring for the community, we have also donated to institutions providing free or subsidized medical and healthcare services as well as welfare societies in aid of the less fortunate. For the third consecutive year, we have contributed to Business China, a platform dedicated to raising the bilingual and bicultural quotient of Singaporeans as well as the global connectivity of Singapore.

In line with global efforts to save the environment and reduce global warming, SIF is committed to reducing energy usage and office consumables. Management and staff are educated on and encouraged to reduce paper usage, cut down on power consumption by switching off the power of devices and equipment when not in use, as well as leaving minimal lighting switched on after office hours.

We will continue to raise awareness amongst management and staff to step up on recycling efforts in as well as reducing waste from all areas of our operations.
